Using the tagline “Visit Batang 2022, Heaven of Asia”, the quiet regency is aiming to become a world-class tourist destination.
“We are beginning to focus on tourism because Batang has a [competitive] advantage with its natural beauty,” said Batang Regent Wihaji.
For achieving this goal, policies have been designed, with the regency set to collaborate with the youth, sports and tourism agency to develop Batang as a tourist spot.
The plans would start with developing key facilities like upscale hotels. Batang does not have any hotels that are rated three stars or higher.
Wihaji said, “We are planning on opening a large five-star hotel, which would be connected to a mall and strategically located for tourism. Construction for it would hopefully begin in 2019.”
Access to priority tourist attractions in the area would also be improved, especially around Pantura, the main toll road that stretches across Java Island.
Although there are two train stations, no trains from Jakarta stop in Batang. Hence, the government is thinking of initiating talks with state-owned railway operator Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) for opening new routes.
“We are getting ready with Pantura tourist packages, and there will be a tourist festival in Pantura,” Wihaji said.
