HYDERABAD: With the State government issuing a new order to hand over the promised cash incentive of Rs1 crore to archer Vennam Jyothi Surekha, she has withdrawn her proposed indefinite hunger strike.
Surekha and her father Surendra Kumar, had announced to launch the strike from Monday to register their protest against the SAAP for issuing a Government Order on May 3 sharing Rs15 lakh out of the total cash incentive to Cherukuri Satyanarayana of Volga Archery Academy considering him as her coach.
To resolve the issue, TDP MLC Dokka Manikya Vara Prasad and SAAP Chairman Ankamma Chowdary visited Surekha’s house in Vijayawada on Monday and told her that the issue happened due to lapses on the part of the officials. In return, Surekha said she would wait until the evening and then launch her protest, if the government failed to address her objection. However, the issue was sorted out by afternoon itself, after a new order was issued sanctioning Rs 76.53 lakh towards the cash incentive.
Earlier in the day, the MLC promised that such incidents would be not be repeated and justice would be done to every athlete bringing laurels to the state at national and international fixtures.Speaking to Express, Surendra said the government issued an order sanctioning an amount of Rs 76.53 lakh towards cash incentive to Surekha for achieving the prestigious Arjuna Award. The SAAP chairman also assured the archer of arranging a meeting with the CM.
Surekha, father to meet CM in a couple of days
The Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) for issuing a Government Order on May 3 sharing R15 lakh out of the total cash incentive to Cherukuri Satyanarayana of Volga Archery Academy considering him as her coach. To resolve the issue, Telugu Desam MLC Dokka Manikya Vara Prasad and SAAP Chairman Ankamma Chowdary visited Surekha’s house in Vijayawada on Monday. The MLC said measures would be taken to provide, at the earliest, the total cash incentive, 500 square feet of land in Vijayawada and Group-I posting to Surekha, which was promised by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. The SAAP chairman also assured the archer of arranging a meeting with the Chief Minister.
