Watch: Tesla Model 3 Runs a 13-Second Quarter Mile

Considering the huge production delays, it may be hard to believe that some people actually have a Tesla Model 3, but they do exist in the wild.

YouTuber JR Garage recently took his Tesla Model 3 to Cecil County Dragway in Maryland, claiming to have set a new quarter-mile world record with a 13.330 @ 104.07 mph pass. That is, of course, in the long-range version of the Model 3 since the standard version hasn’t even entered production yet. It does, however, give us an idea of what to expect when the dual motor, all-wheel-drive version arrives sometime in the future.

It’s a far cry from the Tesla Model S P100D’s world record quarter-mile time of 10.723 seconds, but it is nonetheless impressive for the more affordable Model 3. That also means the Model 3 likely does zero-to-60 in the mid-four second range, making it pretty quick.

There’s little doubt the Model 3 is the fastest of all its competitors, with a system output of 271 horsepower and 307 pound-feet of torque. To put it all into perspective, the Honda Civic Type R with 306 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque does the quarter mile in around 14 seconds. A better competitor to the Model 3 in a drag race? The Ford Focus RS, which Motor Trend tested to a 13.3 @ 103.3 mph time.
