Maruti to check Baleno, Swift for brake hose fault

Cars made from Dec. 1, 2017 to Mar. 16, 2018 to be inspected

Maruti Suzuki on Tuesday said it will undertake a “service campaign” for the new Swift and Baleno models to inspect for a possible fault in the brake vacuum hose.

This will impact a total of 52,686 models of the new Swift and Baleno manufactured between December 1, 2017 and March 16, 2018, the company said on its website.

‘No recall’

The car maker termed the exercise ‘service campaign’, while clarifying that it does not amount to a recall as it does not pose a safety concern to the car customers.

Brake vacuum hose is a rubber pipe that helps create and release vacuum while applying brake, but does not lead to any loss of braking function.

“Service campaigns are undertaken globally by automobile companies to rectify faults that may potentially cause inconvenience to customers,” the company said.

Starting May 14, owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted by dealers for inspection and replacement of the faulty part. The inspection and replacement will be done free of cost for the customer, Maruti Suzuki added.
