Kenya replace SA in Intercontinental Cup

new delhi: Kenya has been roped in as a replacement for South Africa in the forthcoming Hero Intercontinental Cup after the South African Football Federation expressed its inability to participate in the four-nation tournament. Besides Kenya from the CAF region, the Intercontinental Cup, which will kick off at the Mumbai Football Arena on June 1, will have representation in New Zealand from the Oceania region, and Chinese Taipei from the AFC region. The Kenyan squad boasts a number of players who play across various professional premier leagues in Europe and other parts of the world. The tournament is being organised to strengthen India's preparation for the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019, the county's second qualification to the continental championship in eight years and fourth overall, the last being in Doha 2011. The Indian side has been on an upsurge over the last couple of years and is currently ranked 97 as per April 2018 FIFA rankings.

Ronchi, McClenaghan in World XI squad

dubai: New Zealand pair of Luke Ronchi and Mitchell McClenaghan on Monday completed the ICC World XI line-up for the fund-raising Twenty20 International against the West Indies at Lord's on May 31. Wicketkeeper-batsman Ronchi and fast bowler McClenaghan join a host of stars who have already confirmed their participation in the Lord's match, which is being organised to raise funds for stadia in the Caribbean which were damaged due to hurricanes last year. The team, to be led by England's limited overs captain Eoin Morgan, includes Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik (both India), Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik (both Pakistan), Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal (both Bangladesh), Thisara Perera (Sri Lanka) and Rashid Khan (Afghanistan). The Windies, the reigning ICC World Twenty20 champions, are being led by Carlos Brathwaite.

'Need to work on my consistency'

new delhi: Boosted by her Gold and Silver medal-winning performances at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, pistol ace Heena Sidhu is confident of doing well in the upcoming ISSF World Cup in Munich, but said she needs to work on her consistency.The International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup in the German city is scheduled to be held from May 22 to 29. "I will be training in Pforzheim from May 8 to 21 and will also play a practice match on May 13, 2018. And then we have the World Cup at the end of this month," Heena said ahead of her departure for Germany.

Aditi finishes T-6th on LPGA

texas: Young Indian golfer Aditi Ashok notched up her second successive top-10 finish by finishing Tied-sixth at the Volunteers of America LPGA Texas Classic, here. The tournament, cut short to 36 holes because of rain and weather, had Aditi setting the clubhouse target as she played her second and final round in 5-under 66 to finish at 7-under 135. The event was shortened to 36 holes due to severe weather on Thursday and Friday. This was Aditi's second top-10 in a row after her Tied-seventh at LPGA Mediheal last week.
