Lake County Common Pleas Court primaries won by Condon, LoConti

Republican Pat Condon and Democrat Dennis LoConti won their respective primaries and will face off in November to replace retiring Lake County Common Pleas Court Judge Richard L. Collins Jr.

Condon beat out Jeff Black and Mike DeLeone in the Republican primary May 8. According to the unofficial final results from the Lake County Elections Board, Condon received 51.9 percent of the vote, followed by DeLeon with 24.7 and Black with 23.4.

The 46-year-old Condon, of Painesville, is a longtime assistant Lake County prosecutor. In his News-Herald election questionnaire, he said the Lake County Common Pleas Court General Division is widely recognized as very well-run and there were no obvious areas that needed improvement.

“I appreciate the outpouring of support from the community,” Condon said. “I’m looking forward to the upcoming campaign and winning the support of the rest of Lake County.”

LoConti beat out Chuck Cichocki and Paul Miller in the Democratic primary. According to the unofficial final results from the Elections Board, LoConti finished with 38.36 percent of the vote, followed by Miller with 33.3 and Cichocki with 28.34.

The 61-year-old LoConti, of Mentor, is a trial attorney with 35 years of experience in both criminal and civil cases. He also has served as an acting Mentor Municipal Court judge since 2016. In his News-Herald election questionnaire, he said would like to research ways to pay for a county Drug Court, as well a Mental Health Court and Veterans Court to help reduce the prison population.

“I’m really humbled by the voters’ support,” LoConti said. “I’m confident going forward to November.
