All donations towards the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund(PMNRF) and the National Defence Fund(NDF) are notified for 100% deduction from taxable income under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act,1961

The Supreme Court has come down heavily on the Income Tax Department for delayed filing of appeals in High courts and in the apex court.

A bench comprising Justices A K Sikri and Ashok Bhushan yesterday took strong note of the usual delay in filing appeals by the IT department in cases related to income tax assessment.

The bench said in every case there is a delay of 200 days. Attorney General K K Venugopal, who was present in the courtroom, said there had been a delay in filing of appeals by the department and the "system has to change".

He added that almost 90 percent of the appeals of the IT department was getting dismissed by the courts
