Subarnapur rapist awarded 14-yr RI

A local court here sentenced a rapist to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) on Saturday.

Additional District Judge Pratima Panda also ordered Naseeb Khan to pay Rs 10,000 as fine, which would be handed over to the survivor’s family. Khan (28), a resident of Majhipara in Sonepur town is a trader in cosmetic goods and travelled to different villages to sell the products.

He came in  contact with a family belonging to his community in Kenjhariapali village in Birmaharajpur block about four years ago and developed intimacy with them.

He often lived at their house when he visited the area.

In December 2014, Khan abducted a15- year-old girl of the house when she was alone and took her into a nearby forest and raped her there.

The family lodged a complaint with the Birmaharajpur police, who rescued the girl after two days from the nearby forest.
