Mumbai: In a latest development in the Kirti Vyas murder case, the Mumbai Crime Branch officials are reconstructing the crime scene along with the accused Siddhesh Tamhankar (28) and Khushi Sahjwani (42). Confirming the development, Mumbai Police Commissioner Datta Padsalgikar said, “The accused have said that they had planned to dispose the body near Kalanagar in Bandra (East) but given up the idea as the area was crowded. So they moved further towards Wadala and dumped the body. We are reconstructing the crime scene.”
Vyas, who was seated next to driving seat, was strangulated by Tamhankar who was seated in the rear seat while Sahjwani drove the car after the accused duo offer her lift in the SUV near her house on March 16. “After killing Vyas, Tamhankar pulled her back from the front seat to rear seat before dumping her body in the car boot,” Padsalgikar added. However, the investigators are yet to recover the corpse which the accused have told Crime Branch sleuths that they dumped the corpse in a drain behind IMAX theatre in Wadala on March 16. “Both the accused were close friends and they got agitated with Vyas after the female accused was served memo for her shoddy work,” he said.
With the help of local police officials, the crime branch is searching for the body which is believed to have either been washed away in high water or got tangled somewhere in the thick mangroves. “We are trying all possible methods to find the body,” said Padsalgikar, while hinting that Mumbai police may request Indian Navy to call for divers to fish out the body.
A source at Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratory (DFSL) told the Free Press Journal, “By now the body would have been fully decomposed. In this condition, it would be tough for us to analyse if she (Vyas) was poisoned or her food/drink was sedated before she was killed.” The DB Marg police failed to get any clue since March 16 despite getting CCTV footage and acquiring Call Data Records (CDR) of victim as well as accused. The DFSL is yet to get the cell phones of both the accused for forensic analysis.
“We have not been given the cell phones of accused till now. They (Crime Branch) had come to give us a laptop of the accused for its forensic analysis but we refused to accept it as it was not sealed officially,” another source at DFSL told the Free Press Journal. The police have recorded the statements of relatives of both the accused.
