MOON TWP. — A new shopping and dining complex at the intersection of University Boulevard and Interstate 376 Business Loop is about to break ground and should be finished by March of next year.
Called University Centre, the plaza will include 25,000 square feet of shopping and dining space. Preliminary plans call for nine buildings to be constructed, several of which will be food service businesses.
Allan Wampler, the president of Synergy Real Estate Corp., the company overseeing the development, confirmed Monday that crews will break ground on the site “in the next coming weeks.”
He said about 50 workers will be on site during the duration of the project, and the entire development should be finished by March.
Wampler previously said several tenants have already signed on to occupy space in University Centre, though he declined to name them.
He also previously said it was an easy decision to further develop University Boulevard, if only because 80,000 people work within 5 miles of the proposed development.
He added that students and administrators at nearby Robert Morris University and Moon Area High School will also help to drive sales at University Centre.
Finally, Wampler said he wanted to thank local elected officials who’ve worked hard to help get his project off the ground.
“Moon Township has been extremely cooperative as usual in getting the project to the point it’s at today,” he said.
For more than a decade, Wampler’s company has been developing parcels along a quarter-mile stretch of University Boulevard.
