According to Michael Ernest, assistant county prosecutor, Brown supplied an unknown opiate to his daughter on Oct. 22, 2016. She took it voluntarily. "She had an adverse reaction to it," he said.
A family member used Narcan to revive the girl, who was treated at Trinity Hospital Twin City and released that night, according to Ernest.
NEW PHILADELPHIA A 37-year-old Gnadenhutten man is expected to be sentenced in a month for giving an opiate to his 16-year-old daughter, who overdosed.
Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Judge Edward O'Farrell found Carl E. Brown guilty Monday of corrupting another with drugs as part of a negotiated plea agreement. In return for Brown's guilty plea, the prosecution dropped two additional charges of corrupting another with drugs. The expected sentence is two years in prison followed by three years of probation. Brown is not to be given credit for time served in the Tuscarawas County Jail.

Ernest said he could not remember any similar case.
"This is a first," he said.
O'Farrell released Brown on his personal recognizance until sentencing, but told him he could be charged with escape if he does not return for his next court appearance.
Brown has also been released on his own recognizance by New Philadelphia Municipal Court, where he has three pending cases. He has pleaded not guilty to charges of possessing drug abuse instruments, resisting arrest and possessing an open container of alcohol. A Tuscarawas County deputy sheriff filed the charges April 24.
