Ganjam criminal injured in encounter dies

A dreaded criminal of Ganjam district, who was injured in an encounter with police on Saturday, died while undergoing treatment at the MKCG Medical College Hospital here on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Srikant Rana of Mudulipalli village in the Bhanjanagar area of the district.

Srikant along with his associate Gaura Swain had been critically injured in an exchange of fire with police near the Baghua forest under the Buguda police limits on Saturday night. They were taken to the Buguda hospital and later shifted to the MKCG Medical Collage Hospital. The duo had sustained bullet injuries on their legs.

It was suspected that Srikant succumbed to his injuries due to heavy bleeding. Gaura is still undergoing treatment.

Both the criminals were the most wanted in various crimes including extortion, loot, kidnapping and bombing.

They were the prime accused in the Manitara Rushikulya Gramya Bank robbery case.
