Police nab man who duped online sellers

He targeted customers who wanted to sell Royal Enfield bikes

The Wilson Garden police have arrested a 32-year-old man who used to cheat people on the pretext of buying their vehicle. The police used an online marketing site to trap him by placing an advertisement to sell a Royal Enfield bike.

The arrested man has been identified as Bhaskar, a native of Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu. Police have recovered three bikes from him.

According to a police officer, Bhaskar used to target customers who wanted to sell Royal Enfield bikes. He used to fix a date with them and take the bike documents, but then plead that he does not have the cash to pay them. He would offer to pay by cheque. However, the cheques would bounce.

Bhaskar had cheated three customers using this modus operandi.

One of the victims wanted to sell his bike to arrange money for his wife’s treatment for a chronic illness, police said.

The accused met him, made him sign on the vehicle transfer documents and handed over a cheque, which the victim could not encash from the bank. The police took action on his complaint.
