Green Army sets up cycling club

The Green Army has set up a cycling club as part of its cycling literacy campaign.

Twenty persons, of all ages, are gathering at the Sisuvihar Lower Primary School, Vazhuthacaud, to take part in the week-long free training, being held in association with the Indus Cycling Embassy.

Green Army units have been set up in 30 schools in the city to educate schoolchildren on zero-waste schemes and environmental activities and increase their participation in them so as to take the message of waste management to society as well.

The army plans to emphasise the environmental benefits of using cycle as a mode of transport and creating awareness of rules and regulations to follow on road.

At the Harithanagarotsavam camp held last month at different venues, the Green Army mentors had given inputs regarding the green action plan to the students as a preface to the Cycle Literacy Campaign.

By the end of the year, the Green Army network is envisaged to be extended to over 65 schools in the city.
