Transgender Meera bags Youth Icon Award

Meera Parida, a transgender from Odisha, received the Youth Icon Award 2018 for her outstanding contribution to social cause at a function here on Sunday.

The National Human Welfare Council in association with the Sarv Sewa Karya Samiti presented the Youth Icon Award 2018 at Gurgram.

Social activist Pradiv Khatana and RL Sharma, from the Police Aid Foundation, Gurgaon conferred the award. National Human Welfare Council present Gunjan Mehta was present.  Meera  mobilised the LGBT community to bring them to the mainstream life. Meera (cofounder, SAKHA) is a champion of human rights of the deprived and disenfranchized in general and transgender and LGBQ community in particular.  She has been actively working as a professional in the field of HIV/AIDS, health and wellbeing for past eight years. In addition she has contributed for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, blood donation camps and control of road trafficking, etc.
