Police seek public's aid after search of victim's apartment

FALL RIVER — A 29-year-old city man shot in the upper right leg Friday night on Rocliffe Street was expected to be released Monday from Rhode Island Hospital, while police continue their investigation.

That includes attempts to speak with the stabilized victim, whom investigating Detective Dwaine Cabeceiras and Officer Michael Perreira said has been “uncooperative.”

They identified the gunshot wound victim as George Mobley, who lives in the vicinity of the Rocliffe Street scene of the incident in the Flint area between Pleasant and County streets.

Two shell casings were recovered at the scene, one on the street and the other on the porch of 64 Rocliffe St. after the shooting about 9 p.m., police said in an emailed press statement.

They sought evidence in his third-floor apartment after obtaining a search warrant.

While the search warrant did not lead to any further evidence, police said, “Based upon the initial investigation, this does not appear to be a random act of violence.”

While police scanner reports that night stated a white male wearing a gray sweatshirt was seen armed with handgun and leaving the scene in a northwesterly direction, police released no further details about a suspect.

“At this time, the Fall River Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying any possible suspects involved in this incident,” said the release issued by Sgt. J.T. Hoar.
