Ujjain: Neelganga police on Saturday night arrested a BJP corporator and three others were arrested for indulging in betting on IPL matches. Acting on tip-off, Neelganga police along with a team of cyber cell sleuths raided a house in Neelganga Railway Colony and arrested BJP corporator Faruq alias Raju, son of Mohammad Hussein, a resident of Begambag Colony in ward number 10 for indulging in betting activities on IPL matches along with three others.
Other arrested have been identified as Abdul Khalil, a resident of Begumbag Colony; Arbaaz alias Altmash, a resident of Naliyabakhal and Mohammad Abid, son of Mohammad Ibrahim, a resident of Begumbag Colony. Police have also recovered Rs 14,000 cash, mobile phones, match chart, television set and a register from them. Another accused Shehzad managed escaped from the spot. Police registered cases against the accused under Section 3 /4 of Public Gambling Act.
In another incident, Jiwajiganj police also arrested bookies from the house of Purushottam Sutar located at RNT Marg. The arrested have been identified as Naveen Malviya (21), a resident of Ankpaat Marg; Savan Malviya, a resident of Geeta Colony; Arjun (28), a resident of Ramgarh under Bhairavgarh police station and Sarthak.
According to police, the accused were accepting bets on IPL cricket matches. Police have also recovered Rs 24,500 cash, mobile phones, television set and set top box from the house. All the accused have been booked under Section 3 /4 of Public Gambling Act.
