Fish vendor murdered

A 46-year-old fish vendor was hacked to death near Goubert Market around 4 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Police identified the deceased as Pandian, a resident of Kurusikuppam.

Pandian was on his way to the Goubert Market when a four-member gang on motorbikes attacked him with weapons at Ambour Salai. He died on the spot.

On knowing about the murder, the fish vendors from the market blocked Ambour Salai and did not allow the police to remove the body to the Government General Hospital.

Local legislator K. Lakshminarayanan and Senior Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) Apoorva Gupta tried to pacify the agitators but to no avail.

They allowed the police to remove the body only after Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy, who also arrived at the spot, assured of speedy action against the culprits.
