The first sensitization meeting of stakeholders to make Delhi a model Accessible city was held in the national capital today. Chairing the meeting, Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Shakuntala Gamlin said making places accessible for persons with limitations is no more a social obligation but a constitutional one.
The Secretary said Delhi must be an example to other cities when it comes to creating universal accessibility in the built environment, transport system, and IT ecosystem. She said a barrier-free environment will empower persons with disabilities.
AIR correspondent reports Accessible India campaign was launched in December 2015. It has the vision to build an inclusive society in which equal opportunities are provided for growth and development of persons with disabilities.
