Market Now: HUL, ITC drive up Nifty FMCG index
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 34 were trading in the green, while 16 were in the red.
NEW DELHI: The Nifty FMCG index was trading 1.11 per cent up at 28,491 around 01:40 pm (IST) on gains in Hindustan Unilever (up 2.48 per cent), Jubilant Foodworks (up 1.50 per cent) and ITC (up 1.37 per cent).

Shares of Tata Global Beverages (up 1.34 per cent), Britannia Industries (up 1.23 per cent), Godrej Industries (up 0.99 per cent) and Colgate-Palmolive (India) (up 0.52 per cent) were also in the positive territory.

Stocks such as United Breweries (up 0.23 per cent), United Spirits (up 0.16 per cent), Marico (up 0.14 per cent) and GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare (up 0.06 per cent) were trading with tepid gains.

However, shares of Emami (down 2.02 per cent) and Godrej Consumer Products (down 1.51 per cent) cracked up to 2 per cent, whereas Procter & Gamble Hygiene & Healthcare (down 0.61 per cent) and Dabur India (down 0.09 per cent) too were in the red.

Equity barometer Sensex rose 232 points during afternoon trade today on bouts of buying in key frontline stocks of realty, consumer durables, metals, banks, auto and FMCG sectors amid mixed Asian cues.

Asian stocks were trading mixed despite the biggest advance in US shares in almost four weeks.

In the domestic market, profit-booking was witnessed in healthcare counters.

The NSE Nifty50 index was up 61 points at 10,679, while the BSE Sensex was up 195 points at 35,111.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 34 were trading in the green, while 16 were in the red.

Hindalco Industries, GAIL, Axis Bank, Hindustan Unilever and State Bank of India were among the top gainers in the Nifty index.

However, Lupin, Coal India, Dr. Reddy's Labs, TCS and Sun Pharma continued trading among the top losers in the Nifty pack of stocks.
