AHMEDABAD: Chief Minister
Vijay Rupani today started deepening the
Timba village ponds in
Satlasana taluka in
Mehsana district under the Sujalam Sufalam Jal Sanchay Abhiyan-2018 to dig 11 lakh cubic foot earth in 13,000 village ponds and rejuvenate 34 dying rivers across the state before the onset of the monsoon.
Speaking on the occasion, he described the month-long Maha Abhiyan is to preserve the surplus rainwater in village ponds and check dams to recharge the subsurface water table, with people’s participation. Water is life for human beings, cattle wealth and vegetation. He said this campaign is poised to be India’s largest.
In all, deepening 121 ponds, de-silting 66 check dams, repairing six check dams and cleansing 14km canal network formed part of the campaign in Mehsana district.
Those who welcomed the Chief Minister included Vidhan Sabha Whip Bharatsinh Dabhi, District Collector H.K. Patel, DDO Manoj Daxini, Additional Resident Collector
Ramesh Merja, leaders Nitinbhai Patel, V.S. Rawal, Anil Patel, Natuji Thakor, and panchyat leaders.
