The high school baseball postseason is here. The past few days brought the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference quarterfinals, some county championship games and many regular season finales.

In Prince George’s County, C.H. Flowers beat Gwynn Park to win the county championship for the second straight year.

“I feel pretty good about the state of the team, pretty satisfied,” Coach George Brown said. “This is the type of game that gets you ready for tournament baseball.”

It was just the latest success for the Jaguars, who went undefeated in conference play. All three of their losses came during a competitive nonconference schedule that included matchups with teams from Howard and St. Mary’s counties.

“Those types of games set a tone and let you gauge what you have,” Brown said.

With an experienced team that features nine seniors and a junior who is a Division I prospect, the Jaguars turn their attention to the playoffs with the intention of making a statement.

“We want to play our game, hit well and really compete with anyone. Show that our county isn’t a walkover,” Brown said.

In Anne Arundel County, the championship will be decided Tuesday in what should be an exciting rubber match. Severna Park walked off Arundel the first time they played, but the Wildcats got their revenge two weeks ago with a 6-2 win. They could see each other a fourth time in the playoffs, but for now the teams are focused on grabbing local bragging rights.

“It’s really a fun time for the team, and it’s another chance to get better leading into the playoffs,” Arundel Coach Frank Hood said.

Hood’s team will be looking to maintain momentum as it enters Tuesday’s matchup riding an eight-game winning streak.
