Woman held, stolen bangles recovered

The police have arrested a 45-year-old woman, who was allegedly involved in a theft at a jewellery shop in the Virugambakkam police station limits.

According to the police, a pair of bangles weighing 4.5 sovereigns were reportedly stolen from the shop on Arcot Road last week.

Accused is an ex-convict

P. Aravindan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, T. Nagar, formed a special team, which checked the CCTV footage at the shop and found that the suspect, Thatchayini, 45, an ex-convict, was from GKM Colony, Perambur.

Investigation revealed that she went into the shop posing as a customer and asked the salesman to show her some bangles. The salesman showed her a collection and when he turned to get a few more, Thatchayini pocketed some bangles. She then left the shop, saying she did not like the collection.

By the time the salesman realised that some bangles were missing, Thatchayini escaped on her two-wheeler. But the police recovered the bangles from her. “We are checking other cases against her,” the police said.
