The Sycamore softball team lost to Belvidere on Saturday afternoon, 2-1.
Spartans starting pitcher Ally Versluys gave up one earned run on five hits while striking out one.
Sycamore’s offense finished with nine hits. Haley Trela and Amanda Swedberg led the Spartans at the plate as the pair combined to hit 4 of 7. Mia Richards went 1 for 3 with an RBI, and Gracyn Gabriel finished 1 for 4 with a triple.
“Credit to Belvidere’s shortstop for single-handedly changing this game by making three to four outstanding plays in the field,” Sycamore coach Jill Carpenter said. “She really saved the game for them. It’s not often you get nine hits and only come away with one run. We left a bunch of runners on base and just couldn’t find a hole when we needed to.
“Ally threw a great game, and I wish it was a better outcome for her after only giving up one earned run.”
The Spartans (15-9) host Sterling at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
