Woman beats mom-in-law, arrested

The Jhirpani police on Saturday arrested a 40-year-old woman on the charge of allegedly assaulting her 70-year-old mother-in-law as the latter denied giving her an amount of Rs 1.5 lakh.

Kusuma Sharma (70), a widow residing at C/542, Koel Nagar in the city,  had on Friday lodged a complaint at the Jhirpani police station alleging that her daughter-in-law Geeta Sharma (40) had attempted to press her neck by sitting on her chest.

After her husband’s death 15 years back, Kusum had got Rs 1.5 lakh as compensation. Geeta had reportedly been asking Kusuma to give the money to her. As Kusuma was reluctant, Geeta used to torture her.

Geeta has been arrested on the basis of Kusuma’scomplaint, said IIC N Padhee.
