Mohali – Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday said the Congress government had not only removed the entire history of the ten Sikh Gurus from the Class XII history book of the State education board but also chopped off the history of several saints including Guru Ravi Das and Sant Namdev. He was addressing a select gathering of citizens here during which Anandpur Sahib MP Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra also gave a presentation of the work done by him in the Parliament as well as in the Lok Sabha constituency. The SAD president said: “It is shameful that an elected government has chosen to omit 23 chapters on the ten Sikh Gurus from the Class XII history book of the State education board and replace it with a twentyfour line excerpt.” He said that this was not all. “Even a legend like Banda Singh Bahadur has been given only two lines in the new history book which has replaced Sikh history with the history of the Congress party as well as historical figures like Ahmed Shah Abdali and Aurangzeb,” he said.
The SAD president said even the Bhakti movement as well as the work done by reformers like Guru Ravi Das as well as Sant Namdev had been severely edited and presented in minuscule detail even though this had been covered properly in the old class twelve text book. While exhorting Captain Amarinder Singh to admit his mistake immediately and replace the old book after scrapping the new one.
