BEACH CITY When Francis "Butch" Soehnlen needed to plow a 30-acre field this spring, his son-in-law, Darren Mishler of Beach City, suggested having a "Plow Day."

So on April 12, friends gathered at the field off Chestnut Ridge Road south of Beach City.

Using older model tractors with one or two bottom plows, and a team of Haflinger draft ponies, they tackled the field.

At one time, there were six tractors and the draft pony team in the field plowing.

Onlookers gathered to watch and listen to the sounds of different models of tractors, from a 1931 McCormick Deering, to old Farmalls, to the putt-putt of 1950s John Deeres.

Soehnlen is the owner of Soehnlen Brothers Sand and Gravel near Beach City. His son-in-law, Larry Hoagland of Beach City, will soon be planting soybeans in the field.

Everyone involved had so much fun on Plow Day that they might do it again next spring, Soehnlen said.
