Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said lateral entry of women in politics, defence or in any other field gives the good result. Addressing an event in New Delhi this morning, Ms Sitharaman said there is a need to promote women in every field. She said the government, through its MUDRA scheme, is giving financial assistance to those who need to start their own business. Saying that women are performing extremely good in several key areas, she expressed her satisfaction with the fact that their job is being acknowledged. She said that effort should be made on every frontier including the informal sector to ensure women's participation.
Noting that there is an inadequate number of women executives in the Board of companies, she emphasised that major reform and transparency is required to bring women to the forefront. Calling for exploring best opportunities for women in different sectors, she said women engagement in the fields of enterprise and entrepreneurship should be encouraged.
Citing the example of Manipur state where participation of females in the informal sector is impressive, Ms Sitharaman said there should be integration and synergy of every individual work and should not be performed in isolation.
Ms Sitharaman said Indian women need to grab every opportunity coming their way and stressed on the need of more women entrepreneurs contributing in the Indian armed forces as women have achieved great heights in all spheres of life. The Minister said the woman entrepreneurs should find ways and means to increase their participation in defence production and procurement, especially in the non-uniform sector. She said this will help generate employment opportunities for women.
