Indore: There is no relief for denizens from scorching heat as mercury is hovering over 41 degrees Celsius mark in the city for a week. Officials of the Regional Meteorological Department have forecast that there would be no relief for people as the heat wave would continue to sweep across the state in coming days.
Hot winds blowing across the city made the day unbearable for citizens on Sunday as people kept themselves confined indoors to prevent themselves from scorching heat. The maximum temperature on Sunday was recorded at 41.8 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature was recorded at 24.6 degrees Celsius, both were one degrees Celsius above the normal.
“Winds blowing with a speed of about 20-25 kms per hour has kept the temperature near to the normal. However, the hot winds has made the city weather dry and diminishing is little chances of relief for citizens,” the weathermen said.
The humidity recorded on Sunday morning was 41 per cent while it was 19 per cent in the evening. Meanwhile, city doctors have raised alarm over rise in number of patients suffering from heatstroke, dehydration and other diseases. Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr HN Nayak said that cases of heat stroke, dehydration and other heat related ailments are increasing in the city.
“We have constituted special teams to keep an eye on the number of patients and to provide all possible medical care to them. We have also launched a campaign to make people aware about the ways to keep themselves hydrates and to prevent from heat ailments,” Dr Nayak said.
Water scarcity looms across the city
With increase in temperature, residents of various areas in the city are facing water scarcity and they have to wait for tankers to meet their demands. Residents of Omaxe City staged a demonstration over water problem in the area. Residents alleged that Indore Municipal Corporation has not been providing them water regularly and bore wells in the area have dried up.
Meanwhile, water works committee in-charge of Indore Municipal Corporation Balram Verma claimed that they have not received any major complaint about water scarcity. “In view of the increasing heat, we will increase number of water tankers to meet the needs of the city. He said the corporation started water supply through few water tankers.
