Purple Carrot, a company that provides plant-based meal kits, has gotten a $4 million investment from fellow food company Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc. Among the uses for the money, Purple Carrot plans to enhance the supply chain, develop retail channels and pursue other opportunities. Purple Carrot launched in October 2014. Plant-based dining is expected to be a $25 billion business, according to data provided by Purple Carrot. And meal kits are expected to grow to a $35 billion business by 2025, up from $1.6 billion in 2016. Fresh Del Monte shares are up nearly 2% for the year to date while the S&P 500 index is down 0.4% for the period.
