Tibet’s tourism revenue rises by 47% in Q1

From January to March, Tibet has embraced 1.06 million marking a rise of 49.5% from a year ago. Total tourism revenue also increased by 47% to 1.26 billion yuan (amounting to 198 million U.S. dollars) as per the regional Tourism Development Commission on Sunday.

 

Tourism was bit slow in Tibet owing to frigid weather conditions on the highland.

 

This year in January the regional government had published a few preferential policies including hotel and ticket discounts and also charter flight and train services to attract domestic and overseas tourists.

 

Tickets to the Potala Palace, Tibet’s most renowned attractions were tough to get in March and the Basum Lake scenic area that is yet another tourist attraction observed the tourist arrivals grow by a factor of six in the initial quarter.

 

The local government has decided to continue some of the winter tourism incentives until June to draw more tourists.
