Jennifer Reindl says it is a miracle that her 13-year-old son is alive.

Trenton McKinley battled for his life for months and managed to come back from the brink of death after severe brain injuries.

McKinley from Mobile County, Alabama, met with an accident in March and was left with seven fractures in his skull.

He was rushed to USA Medical Center and remained unresponsive for 15 minutes, Reindl was quoted as saying by Fox10.

The doctors managed to bring him back but told Reindl his chances of recovery were slim.

“When he came back, they said he would never be normal again. They told me the oxidation problems would be so bad to his brain, that he would be a vegetable if he even made it,” Reindl added.

She lost all her hope after her teenage son remained brain-dead for days and did not show any sign of recovery even after multiple attempts to resurrect him. She then decided to put McKinley’s organs for donation and even signed the papers.

“Five kids needed organs that matched him. It was unfair to keep bringing him back because it was just damaging his organs even more,” Reindl was quoted as saying by Fox10.

But fate had other plans for McKinley. A day before doctors decided to pull the plug, he showed signs of consciousness.

“Well our Trenton is awake and in good spirits today. We are beyond thankful to god for healing and continuing to heal Trent. Thanks so much to each and every one of y’all for your prayers and support. We send our love from Birmingham (sic),” Reindl posted on April 26 on Facebook.

It is, however, a long way for him to full recovery.

McKinley continues to suffer from nerve pain and daily seizures and will have to go through a final surgery to reconnect the missing pieces of his skull. He has already had three brain surgeries so far.

Reindl has created a page on Facebook to collect funds for her son’s treatment and 189 people have donated $10,210 in 48 days.
