A lawsuit to be filed at midnight by fair-housing advocates accuses Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson of unlawfully suspending in January a 2015 rule intended to enforce the 1968 Fair Housing Act, the Washington Post reported late Monday. The Obama-era rule, which compelled communities to draft plans to desegregate or risk losing federal dollars, was intended to end nearly 50 years of inaction. Carson has criticized federal efforts to desegregate American neighborhoods as "failed socialist experiments."
