Campaigning has reached a feverish pitch in poll-bound Karnataka as just four days are remaining for electioneering to end. BJP National President Amit Shah will address rallies in Gadag and Bengaluru rural districts and hold road shows in Davangere and Bengaluru. BJP State President BS Yeddyurappa will campaign in Vijayapura and Haveri, while Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will be in Belagavi. Congress National President Rahul Gandhi will hold road shows and public rallies in Kolar, Chickballpur, Tumkur and Bengaluru. He will also interact with prominent citizens of Bengaluru. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is also reaching Bengaluru today and will interact with media.
Based on the affidavits filed by candidates in this assembly election in Karnataka, a non Governmental organisation called Association for Democratic Reforms has released a report on candidates’ profile. The report says that out of 2560 candidates whose affidavits were analysed, 819 candidates have assets worth over one crore rupees and 391 have declared criminal cases against them.
In another statistics on educational qualification, it is found out that 23 candidates hold doctorates, 239 are postgraduates, 309 hold the professional degree, 410 are graduates and 50 are illiterates.
Going by age groups, most of the candidates are between 41 and 50 years old and only one candidate is below the age of 25. Women constitute only 8 percent of all the candidates contesting the election.
