'Constant change is here to stay': NUM must embrace the future

07 May 2018, 13:18

The workers at NUM need to face the facts:

1) Coal is dirty, drastically increasing pollution and raising global warming. It's also a diminishing asset.

2) South Africa is blessed with excellent sunshine as well as a long coastline that provides wind power for turbines.

3) Renewable energy is on the up-and-up worldwide.

4) Instead of protesting and threatening, what NUM workers need to do is get themselves retrained to be able to install solar panels and solar water heating, taking advantage of the latest clean energy projects signed off by Jeff Radebe.

People protested when cars took over from horses.

NUM workers face the same challenge now. It's stupid to try and fight progress.
