Weather alert in Gurgaon, admin helpline started, residents asked to be alert and careful

GURGAON: The district administration has sounded and alert and asked people to be remain careful on Monday night and Tuesday.
The acting deputy commissioner and administrator HUDA Chandra Shekhar Khare held a meeting in Gurugram with senior district officials asking them to be alert about the possibility of rains and storm, whose warning was sounded by the weather department. Several meetings were held in the day to discuss the preparedness, even as the officials of government departments were asked to be prepared in teams.

According to a district spokesperson, a control room was also set up in the district headquarters, which will be used to receive emergency helplines. Asking the residents to remain alert, Khare asked various departments to be prepared in their own way.

The health department was asked to stock up on medicines, and patient services in case of exigencies. They were asked to stock on fuel for generators, extra mattresses, raw food, dressing material, ambulances, drugs, and be ready with a triage protocol among other measures.

The HUDA officers were asked to ensure that exit route of water and storm water drains were clear in order to avoid flooding, and keep pump sets ready. Forest department officials were also briefed to keep manpower ready in cases of tree falling and obstruction of routes.

Power officials were also alerted to keep a track of poles and ready the ground force in cases of electric poles falling on the ground, to ensure power supply was not disrupted. Further, people were also asked to keep to their houses and not keep anything on their roofs which could fly away, and were asked to remove the plugs of electric and electronic devices before going off to sleep.

The administration also asked people to not keep plant pots on ledges of their houses, as these could cause injuries to people walking close to them.

The phone numbers 0124-2321144, 2325500, 2320508, 2303333, 2322877 were issued as emergency numbers if people were in trouble of any kind, asking people to reach out for help. People have also been asked to stay away from electric police.`

The municipal corporation has also formed close to 35 teams in case of disaster like situation, of close to 500 people. Teams have been formed in water, power, forest, and other departments, as per zones. They have been equipped with equipment, including cutters, and pumps, among others to deal with emergency situations.
