Investors are willing to overlook a lot as long as you make them lots of money. When the cash machine slows, or a government decides to confiscate it, they tend to be less forgiving.

Miner and commodity trader Glencore has been raking in plenty of cash, thanks largely to healthy commodity prices. The Swiss-based company generated $11.6 billion from operations in 2017, up 50% year over year, and tucked $2.9 billion of that directly into shareholders’ pockets.
