Shots fired at Cedar Rapids apartment building

Officers responded to reports of shots fired at Cedarwood Apartments Sunday morning.

According to a news release, a Cedar Rapids police officer on patrol and callers in the area heard several gun shots coming from the area of the Cedarwood Apartments, 2010 Glass Road NE at around 8:15 a.m.

Officers responded to the scene and located several shell casings and noticed that building 2010 of the apartment complex was struck by gunfire. It is unknown whether the building was actually being fired at specifically, according to the release.

There are no reported injuries and only property damage to the building has been reported at this time.

According to the release, officers have been unable to locate any victims in this incident and suspects are unknown. Officers are gathering evidence and speaking with people in the area of the apartment complext at this time.

This is an ongoing investigation.
