Call to set economic priorities

ISB Executive Board member Srini Raju said that India should identify countries with raw materials which it needs as a priority for economic sustainability.

“We are importing from countries which are not giving much help to us and at same time we are not importing from those countries which will be more important for us and our economic sustainability. So there is a mismatch,” he said.

Mr. Raju gave the example of Thailand with whom India has entered into agreements. “We have signed agreements in such a way that anybody can push everything through Thailand. There are no restrictions on that. So people can make in any country and push it to Thailand.”

Touching upon the pharma sector, he said, “There are some disputes with China. Some people say that we should put restrictions on goods from China but little do we realise that if they stop raw materials, we will have no medicines as most of it is sourced from China.”
