NEW DELHI:
Amarjeet and
Narender had much in common. Apart from their love for sports bikes, they were also enthusiastic about a career in the army. According to their parents, biking was one of the reasons why the two rented a room together.
The two other youths, who were riding a different bike and had a close shave, were equally enthusiastic about bikes and the four would often go out on long rides. Saturday night was no different. They left home hoping that they would be back in three-four hours and get enough time to sleep before their morning coaching class in Mukherjee Nagar. That was not to be. The friends, who witnessed the accident, said Amarjeet and Narender used to solve mock test papers of
CDS. They had recently scored well in one such paper and decided to go to
Murthal to celebrate.
They did really well in the last paper that they solved and were hopeful that they would get through the CDS examination as their preparation was going well, one of the friends told a senior police officer. “They decided to treat each other and planned a trip to Murthal, something which they wanted to do for a long time,” said one of Amarjeet’s friends.
The youths told the cops that they were extremely close to Amarjeet’s bike when the incident took place. They, however, could not jot down the registration number of the vehicle that hit the bike as they were in a state of shock.
Meanwhile, the parents of the deceased came to Delhi and went to the accident spot to ask people if they had seen anything. Narendra’s father, Satya Prakash, met a few eyewitnesses who told him that his son was riding safely and it was the
PCR that was at fault.
“We were told that the PCR had jumped the traffic light when it wasn’t even on an emergency duty. There were just two policemen inside and they aren’t injured. I lost my son months after he left home to become what he always wanted to. He had been preparing since school days, but I think destiny had other plans,” he said.
