
DETROIT — Automotive News has added three members to its full-time staff.
Urvaksh Karkaria has been hired as a staff reporter in Atlanta. Karkaria, 44, will chart the evolution of the Southeast into an auto industry powerhouse and cover Atlanta-based Mercedes-Benz USA, Porsche Cars North America and Cox Automotive.
Karkaria, a fourth-generation journalist, has worked in newsrooms across two continents. He joins Automotive News from Atlanta Business Chronicle, where he spent 10 years reporting on corporate relocations and expansions. He also covered the technology and venture capital industries. Karkaria, a native of Mumbai, graduated from Indiana University with a master's degree in journalism. He also has a bachelor's degree in economics and political science.

Amy Butters has been hired full time as a copy editor. Butters, 50, had been at Automotive News as a part-time copy editor since 2016. She previously worked at the Detroit Free Press, Lexington Herald-Leader in Kentucky and The Gazette in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, her hometown. She has a bachelor's degree in journalism from Drake University in Des Moines.

Jackie Charniga has been hired full time as finance and insurance reporter. Charniga, 23, interned at Automotive News beginning in 2017. The Livonia, Mich., native graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor's degree in English.
