In Uttar Pradesh, main opposition Samajwadi Party will contest Kairana Lok Sabha and Noorpur Assembly seat bye-elections with the alliance of Bahujan Samaj Party and Ajit Singh led Rashtriya Lok Dal.

Samajwadi Party's State Unit President and MLC Naresh Uttam told our Lucknow correspondent today that all three parties have decided to contest the bye-polls jointly to defeat the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. He said, his party’s leadership is also in touch with Congress although later has not cleared its stand.

RLD leader Jayant Chaudhary and SP’s national president Akhilesh Yadav held talks at Lucknow on the strategy for the bye-polls. Kairana seat will be contested by the RLD and SP’s nominee will be in contest from Noorpur. Voting will be held on May 28. May 10 is last date for filing of nomination papers. Counting of votes will be held on May 31.

Bye-elections have been necessitated following death of sitting BJP MP Hukum Singh and BJP MLA Lokendra Chauhan.
