Mount Union's women's track and field team posted a pair of provisional qualifying marks for the NCAA Championship at the Campbell/Wright Invitational Saturday at The University of Akron.
Freshman Alexianna Johnson (Dover) posted a season-best mark of 18-feet, 11.75-inches in the long jump, which currently is seventh in the nation in NCAA Division III so far this season.
The other provisional mark came from the 4x100 meter relay team of seniors Katie Goedecke (Cuyahoga Falls / Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) and Steph Donley (Carrollton) along with sophomores Daijana Johnson (Alliance) and Rachael Adams (Louisville / St. Thomas Aquinas) to post the nation's sixth-best time in the event at 47.36.
* Mason Mamarella (Dover) had two hits and two runs scored as the Kent State Flashes broke open a tight game and rolled to another convincing win over Bowling Green, 12-0 on Saturday afternoon at Schoonover Stadium.
Mamarella went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Kent State pitching struck out 19 Bowling Green Falcons, as the Golden Flashes stayed hot in an 11-0 rout, which gave the program its 30th win of the season Friday.
Kent State has now won at least 30 games in 20 straight seasons. Perhaps even more remarkable, the Flashes have just one sub-.500 season since 1981.
* Coby Eckstein (Indian Valley) had two-run home run and two singles as West Liberty baseball moveed one step closer to clinching a spot in next week's MEC Tournament with a 6-0 victory in the second game of a doubleheader.
* Gabrielle Fredericks (Central Catholic) went 2-for-2 with a RBI and a run scored as the University of Pittsburgh softball team clinched the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Coastal Division Championship after earning a 9-8 victory over Louisville Friday at Vartabedian Field.
The Panthers' (30-17-1, 15-6 ACC) win over the Cardinals (32-18, 10-11 ACC) was their 15th conference victory of the season, which ties North Carolina for the most wins in the Coastal Division. With the tiebreaker edge over the Tar Heels, and no remaining ACC games for UNC, the victory marks Pitt's first ACC Division Championship in program history.
* Peyton Speicher (New Philadelphia) finished eighth in the decathalon with 4,600 points to give Walsh University four team points and finished eighth in the high jump with a mark of 1.80 meters to add a solo point at the G-MAC Track and Field Championships at Hillsdale, Michigan, on Friday.
