A special team of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Saturday recovered gold ornaments and other valuables worth Rs 5 lakh which were looted from a woman passenger at the railway station here on Friday.

Sources said the woman travelling by the Konark Express had arrived at the railway station from Visakhapatnam on Friday when three miscreants snatched her luggage and other valuables and fled.

The woman, who is reportedly getting married here on Sunday, lodged a complaint with the GRP, following which a special RPF team swung into action and managed to nab one of the accused, identified as Rabi Nayak, from a slum near the railway station. The other two miscreants were on the run, sources added.

“The stolen ornaments were recovered and returned to the woman passenger. One Rabi Nayak has been arrested while his two other associates are still at large. We are interrogating Nayak; and the other two miscreants would be arrested soon,” said a GRP official.

Meanwhile, the woman and her family members have thanked the GRP and the RPF for their action in recovering the looted valuables.
