Latvian tourist were joined by the public and state government representatives at the memorial gathering organized at Nishagandhi Auditorium here on Sunday.
The function started with a musical tribute by Jojo Antony and troupe.The sister of the woman planted an elanji sapling on the premises in the latter’s memory.
Tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran, who lit candles and offered floral tribute along with 200 others, said, “The state hangs its head in shame because of the tragedy that befell on the woman. Despite facing criticism, the government was able to ensure a proper probe into the incident and nab the culprits with solid proof. We promise that the guilty will be punished.” He also lauded the victim’s sister for her determination.
The sister, who has been staying here for more than three months, thanked the gathering and said, “The people of Kerala helped us a lot. I am happy to know that my sister and I will be always there in your prayers,” she said.
The 33-year-old woman, who had landed in the state capital, had gone missing in March. Her decomposed body was found a month later. She was allegedly raped and murdered. tnn
