MANGALURU: The 29th week shramadan organised by Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru as part of its Swachhata Abhiyan was organised in Hampankatta area of the city on Sunday. K Vithaldas Prabhu and Dayananda Kankanadi jointly flagged off the drive in front of Milagres Church. After flagging off, volunteers were divided into four groups. A group of volunteers cleaned the road dividers in Hampankatta circle and surrounding area.

Dr Rakesh Krishna guided about 30 students of Nitte College of Physiotherapy who cleaned both sides of Milagres Attavara Road off the dirt and sand. Volunteers removed posters stuck to the bus stand walls near Milagres and cleaned the entire spot. Volunteers took up the cleanliness work in front of Islamic Trust Complex and also removed nearly half load of sand lying on the footpath as well as illegally put up banners, boards and flex.



Volunteers thoroughly cleaned nearly 200 feet long railing with boards from Hampankatta to Light House Hill Road.

Volunteers cleaned a black spot littered by the public on V T Road and decorated it with flower pots. The spot was given a face-lift by civil repair work using stones and plastering. Volunteers also cleared and beautified several other such black spots in the city prone to littering by public. Another such spot was a corner on Milagres Attavara Road beside I M A building. Several loads of garbage and construction debris lying in this spot for many years was removed.

Volunteers thoroughly cleaned nearly 200 feet long railing with boards from Hampankatta to Light House Hill Road. They also removed illegal advertisements and posters stuck on the railings and later painted them giving them a new silvery look. Members of Nivedita Balaga and students visited several households and shops in Milagres Church, Hampankatta and surrounding areas and distributed the awareness handbills and urged them to keep the area clean.
