NEW DELHI: Two men died after their bike was hit by an unknown vehicle, following which it hit a
PCR van that had halted at a traffic signal at
GT Karnal road early on Sunday. The deceased stayed at a PG accommodation in Mukherjee Nagar and were on their way to
Murthal to have parathas. They were not wearing helmets, police said.
Two of their friends, who were following them on another bike, had a close shave as they braked in time. Police said one of the survivors made a PCR call and a team was rushed to the spot. The two friends were taken to hospital where they were declared brought dead.
The victims were identified as Amarjeet (20) and Narender Choudhary (24). Amarjeet was resident of Sonipat and Choudhary hailed from UP. They had shifted to Delhi a few months ago to prepare for Combined Defence Services exams.

Rajneesh Gupta said they received a call around 12:30am. The caller told them that two men on a Pulsar bike had hit a PCR van on the Singhu border’s traffic signal at NH-1. “We immediately sent a team there and the men were taken to Raja Harishchand hospital where they were declared brought dead,” he said.
Police said the friends left their PG around 11pm. After some time, they deciding to head for Murthal. This was to be their first visit there. The friends told police that the duo weren’t speeding and also didn’t jump the traffic signal. However, their bike was suddenly hit by a vehicle and the impact was huge. The rider lost control of the bike and hit a PCR van at the traffic signal. They were flung into the air and received serious head injuries, which proved fatal.
A senior officer said the PCR van was headed towards police station after dropping off a patient at Harishchand hospital. The policemen in the van weren’t injured. A case was registered at Alipur police station and further investigations were on, an officer said. Police said they were scanning
CCTV footage from the area to ascertain the sequence of events. They were also looking for the errant vehicle.
