Antiques Roadshow: Viewers absolutely gobsmacked by valuation of ‘hideous’ tea set
ANTIQUES ROADSHOW viewers were stunned by a staggering valuation on an unusual tea set made on today’s instalment of the programme.
Alistair Dickinson met with an Antiques Roadshow contributor who wanted to know how much a tea set belonging to her husband’s family was worth.
After hearing the family history of the piece on the BBC programme, Alistair managed to determine its origins.
He explained: “It’s a Russian tea set made in silver with silver gilt borders and covered in amazing enamel.
“It has a maker’s mark for Maria Semenova, one of the best makers and enamelers of the late 19th Century, very early 20th Century.
“It’s very unusual and I don’t ever recall seeing a tray with a tea set and I’m astonished that there is no particular damage to the tray.”
One he ascertained that it wasn’t a fake, Alistair made the unbelievable offer.
“How about twenty thousand pounds?” he asked.
The guest was wide-eyed in astonishment at the big valuation.
She cried: “Oh my goodness, really?
“Wow, gosh. Thank you very much.”

A third added: “#AntiquesRoadshow 20K? F me!”
The set was decked out in a garish green floral pattern which didn’t go down well with plenty of viewers.
