An 85-year-old Avon Park man and his 80-year-old passenger killed on Interstate 4 near Daytona Beach on Friday have been identified.

James Rogers and Georgia Bell, of North Carolina, died in the wreck, investigating Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.

The pair died when Rogers crashed into a concrete construction barrier on Interstate 4 in Daytona Beach early in the morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said Rogers, in a 2003 Ford sedan, failed to maintain his lane while heading eastbound on I-4 a mile west of Interstate 95. He hit the barrier, sideswiped a guardrail, drove off the road and crashed into a concrete pillar.

Both Rogers and Bell died at the scene just after 1 a.m., FHP spokeswoman Lt. Kim Montes said.
