BJP slams Mani Shankar Aiyar's praise of Jinnah at a Pakistan event

The Bharatiya Janata Party today hit out at suspended Congressman Mani Shankar Aiyar, who has sparked a fresh controversy by praising Muhammad Ali Jinnah amid the ongoing AMU portrait row.

At an event in Pakistan, Aiyar referred to Jinnah as "Quaid-e-Azam".

BJP slammed at Aiyar in the wake of the row, with spokesman Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi saying that Aiyar's statement reveals the true feeling of the Congress party.

Earlier in Aligarh, some groups had taken umbrage at a portrait of Jinnah at Aligarh Muslim University student union's office.

The controversy hit the headlines after BJP's Aligarh MP Satish Gautam questioned the portrait's presence there.

28 students and 13 cops were injured in a clash which broke out last Thursday between cops and AMU students.
